By Yusuf Mehmet Sarışın – In Leros, Where the Flavors of the Aegean Meet a Spectacular View: Mylos by the Sea

Leros, one of Greece's Dodecanese islands, impresses visitors not only with its rich history and natural beauty but also with its outstanding gastronomy.

Located on the waterfront of Agia Marina, right next to the island's historic stone windmill, Mylos by the Sea stands out as one of the most remarkable restaurants on the island.

During my visit to Leros, I had the opportunity to experience both its unique atmosphere and its exceptional cuisine.

From the moment you step inside, you are welcomed by the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea. Waves gently break just a few meters from the windows, while the historic windmill—an iconic symbol of the restaurant—appears almost as if it were part of the dining area itself. Overlooking Agia Marina Harbor, with its pastel-colored houses and traditional fishing boats, the setting resembles a perfect postcard.

Modern Touches on Aegean Cuisine

Established in 2000 as a family-owned business, Mylos by the Sea has grown into one of Leros' premier gastronomic destinations, attracting loyal guests from around the world.

The restaurant's philosophy is based on combining fresh local ingredients with modern culinary techniques.

The menu highlights freshly caught fish, seafood, and seasonal produce.

Everything we tasted reflected that philosophy.

The octopus carpaccio, thinly sliced and served with premium olive oil and fresh herbs, was outstanding. The fish tartare impressed with both its presentation and flavor. The white fish prepared with mushroom sauce was perfectly executed, while the lightly smoked fish selection offered a delightful choice for those who enjoy distinctive flavors.

The meal concluded with a crispy pistachio baklava served alongside ice cream—a contemporary interpretation of one of Greece's classic desserts that left a lasting impression.

Dining to the Sound of the Waves

Without question, the restaurant's greatest asset is its breathtaking location.

The tables are positioned only a few meters from the sea. Guests seated beside the large windows enjoy their meals accompanied by the soothing sound of the waves, creating a natural soundtrack.

The historic stone windmill, the boats anchored in the harbor, and the endless blue of the Aegean transform an ordinary meal into an unforgettable experience.

In the evening, the terrace takes on an entirely different atmosphere, making it an ideal place to enjoy cocktails under the night sky.

Going Without a Reservation Is Risky

Mylos by the Sea is extremely popular, especially during the summer season.

Reservations are accepted primarily through the restaurant's online booking system.

Email is used only for large groups and special events.

WhatsApp is reserved exclusively for last-minute reservations, changes, and cancellations.

Telephone reservations are not accepted, and reservation requests sent through social media are not considered.

The restaurant also emphasizes that during the high season, reserved tables are held for a maximum of 15 minutes after the scheduled time, and no specific table can be guaranteed.

The Gastronomic Showcase of Leros

In recent years, Leros has become one of the most popular Greek islands for Turkish visitors.

Located in the historic district of Agia Marina, Mylos by the Sea is one of the main reasons behind that popularity.

Its refined cuisine, elegant presentation, professional service, and one of the most stunning views in the Aegean make it much more than just a restaurant—it is an experience that remains unforgettable.

For travelers visiting Leros, only a short sea journey from Didim, Mylos by the Sea is an exceptional destination where the flavors and tranquility of the Aegean come together at the same table.

Let me finish as I began:

If you plan to visit, make your reservation online one year in advance and pay a €50 deposit per person.

And now you're probably wondering...

How much did we pay?

There were two of us, and we enjoyed every dish you see in the photographs. The total bill came to €117. Since the €100 deposit we had paid a year earlier was deducted from the final bill, we only paid €17 at the restaurant on the day of our visit.
